What color are lemon Basset Hounds when born
What color are true lemon basset hound when they atre born? Tottally white, or some light patches?
Answers:They can be with some white but they are born lemon like a light beige color and white. My best friend breeds basset hounds and her first litter were lemon color ones. she had 4 lemons. all born with lemon and white. one was more white and the rest were more lemon. but yes they were all born with the "lemon" color.
The tan will be so light that you can't hardly distinguish it from the white.
Always look carefully at the dividing line between the two colors. If the tan bleeds into the white instead of the white having a distinct edge the puppy is a "pied" and not a lemon. With a pied the white will turn a cream color instead of staying white.
It depends. I have seen lemon puppies that are almost white when they are born, and then darken as they get older, and I have seen ones that stay the same shade as they were when they were born. Usually if they have really light cream/yellow spots or are white when they are born they will be a lemon.
