What could be causing dog weight loss and diareahia2007-11-25 2:50:54

Dog is extra hungry all day, has diareahia. Still has a high energy level. Was tested for worms, but no blood test done yet.

I've mixed in a special powder packet from the vet by purina to help make the stools more solid, no luck. my dog is a 3yr old spayed female.

Answers:

Have a complete blood chemistry/CBC panel run on her first of all. A question I would ask is how much water is she drinking? Is her water intake as severely increased as her food intake?

It could be the food. Try changing brands. Think back to what you starting do differently before this happened?

I am not a doctor, but have you tried changing food and giving her bottled water? She may have a sensitivity to something she is ingesting. Water changes from tap can make an animal sick. Trouble shoot her intake first and see what happens. Also check online for this condition. You may find a cure. I will recommend a website that helped me when I was very sick and it worked. Chances are, you will find your answer there. They are pretty good and plenty of user feedback so you can judge for yourself.

First the stomach needs to have a chance to calm down.

Skip at least one meal (unless this is a Toy Breed). Some dogs I'll withhold food for 12-24 hours.

Start feeding a very bland diet (boiled rice/cottage cheese is one). Feed bland diet for 3 days then if diarrhea has stopped start blending her kibble back in GRADUALLY over several days till she's back on food.
