What could be causing my 5 week old Chihuahua to be vomiting every time she eats2007-11-25 2:50:54
My 5 week old puppy has been diagosed with and upper resp infection she has been placed on amoxidrops. The last 2 days she has not been able to hold down any food. She has never drank water the vet as told me that is no big deal due to water being in her food. Does anyone have any advice on what may be wrong with my little puppy?
Answers:Best advice - Take her back to the vet ASAP! A 5 week old pup has no business being away from mama yet and being sick is soooooo soooooooo not good. 2 days without having held anything down is 2 days too many.
Maybe its the medication she is on.I would get a 2nd vet to look at her.
Did you breed her? Because 5 weeks is much too young for a puppy to be away from its mother.
Uhhh.. she needs her mom... Taken away from her mom and littermates too early?? She does need water on top of what is in her food.. She needs clean fresh water all day... If she doesn't eat her food, she gets no moisture.. Plus the fact that some of it evaporates away..
I would get in touch with the breeder. 5 weeks is kind of young for a small dog to be away from its litter.
Well it sounds pretty bad. Her gag reflex could be swollen so when she swalloes, it makes her throw up. Or her stomach could be very sensative to the meds. Or the meds could cause something to mske her throw up like her esaughagus could be doing somethin. Try giving her wet food. Also, if you are havin a hard givin her he meds. put it in a small ball of wet food!
take her back to the vet a.s.a.p (my dog drinks like a horse) if she is being sick then she will dehydrate
anorexic
that happened to my lab. she had swallowed a paper towel and it prevented anything from staying down. I think that is a symptom of worms too but I assume the vet chkd for that...
Sounds like you need a second opinion. It could also be a new food allergy. Alot of the pet food companies are changing their recipes so some animals are having reactions. I would still call another vet and get a second opinion or at least call your vet back and tell them the new symptoms the pup is experiencing. Chihuahua can dehyrate quickly due to their size. I hope since you have this pup at 5 weeks that you also have its mom. This pup should just now be being weaned at 5 weeks and if not I hate to tell you but your pup may not do so well. I cannot believe that if you do not have the mother you need to report this breeder and you need to get that pup back to its mother for at least another 3 weeks. I would not let my pups leave until 10 weeks because they need that time to learn from their mother and litter mates. You are going to have a very hard time training this pup as well and it may end up with life long health issues. And they do need water if they are not nursing. They get dehyrdated quickly!
ask a vet about Tagament suspension they gave my dog this because he was vomiting also I would get a second opinion. shes still so little.
it could be you need to change the antibiotic, when did u worm her last, as puppies need to be wormed, around 4 weeks and 6 7weeks, and make sure she is not constipated,if it continues go back to the vet, dehydration in a puppy is dangerous, hope she is still with mum,but unfortunately she may discard the pup as nature depicts the strongest survives, and the weakest dont, there are formilars you can use ask at the vets, also try a little honey in water she may take that,so good luck.
Amoxicillin is an antibiotic and they usually rip up stomachs. That's why most of them include such as instructions as "take with food." It may be too high a dose. Check with your vet -- and don't wait. She WANTS to eat, but is not getting any nutrition absorbed if she is vomiting.
hi, not sure if you have breed this dear little pup, if not, she should be with her mum, the breeder was wrong to sell her at that age, chihuahuas should be at least 8 weeks, better if 12 weeks, before they leave home.
