ok I had to give one of my dog away, about 3 years ago, I have check on him a couple of times over the years, just to say hey to him and let him know that i missed him, anyways i went bye to check on him yesterday, and he so skinny, had food and water, he was fine other than that, running around playing, everything seems fine with him, but his weight, why is he losing so much weigth? (bye the way I gave him to a family freind and they have taken good care of him, Vets ect, but the vet said he could not find anything wrong with him.)

You fail to mention how old the dog is. Could there just be age related problems?

How skinny are we talking? Skin and bones or just thinner than you are use to seeing him?

Though there may be food and water,look for signs of poop. This will tell you if he is eating. . . if he is not eating the food provided then he will lose weight. Signs of fresh poop is a good sign and will help you figure out what may be going on.

Ticks,heart worms,intestinal worms can cause weight loss but I would figure the vet would have already checked for this.

Do you realize that your going by to see him could be causing him grief? Grief can cause an animal to lose weight.

I love my animals as well but once I have given one away I let go and let God and pray that I did the best. . . I learned about grief when I had to confine a dog that I though might have been exposed to rabies. I had to leave him at the vet for 10days. . .after a couple of days I went by to see him and the vet told me that the next day he refused to eat and just sat all day at the gate. Checking on Freckles did more damage than good so I took the brunt of the wait and just paced the floor until he could come back home.
