What could have killed our puppy
We had a 7 week old female german shepherd who was the runt of the litter but seemed to be catching up fine. She was sick for a week when they were about 3 weeks old and we had just taken her to the vet last week and she was fine. This morning she was ok and ate and drank and everything.we were gone today and when we got home this evening she was dead. Could it just have been something she was born with? And if so why did it take her so long to die..or why didnt the vet know there was something wrong with her last week? Or was it maybe heartworms.? I have no idea because like I said she has been fine lately...we didnt expect it at all. Has anyone had an experience like this??
Answers:If she was inside and died, then my guess would be that she had a heart defect that she was born with. It's not unusual for something like this to go undetected, sometimes you can't find it without specifically looking for it, and you wouldn't look unless you had a reason to suspect a problem. If the dog was outside then I'd suspect all of the above as well as poisoning, either accidental or intentional.
No, but I feel SOOO bad for youu. :[

If the vet did not detect anything wrong then how can anyone else? I understand your frustration and lose but I guarantee you will not get any good answers here. The fact that the puppy was in poor health at three weeks of age is a big clue.
Has she been eating any of the recalled dogfoods?
