What defines animal cruelty2007-11-25 2:51:14

I have a co-worker who leaves her dog in her car while she is at work. She only brings her dog when it is nice outside. I am not sure if she has food or water in there for her dog. The thing is that even if it is a nice day, it gets hot in a car even if the windows are cracked a little bit. Is this considered cruelty? Should I take action? I just don't think it is fair for that dog to be forced into that type of situation. What do you think?

Answers:

Many a dog have died from being left inside vehicles. Why is she bring this dog to work and not leaving it at home? That makes no sense. I would try to talk to her and let her know about how hot it gets in the car and that it can kill dogs in only a matter of a hour! That is considered cruelty and she needs to stop this asap. With warmer weather coming its not good at all.

I agree. I would call Animal Control anonomously and have her get fined. That will hopefully smarten her up.
It is animal cruelty!!! I would take action it would be one thing if the dog was being kept in the car for a little while on a nice day but she shouldnt be taking her dog to work much less leaving it in the car. I would do something call the SPCA and tell them what is going on they can check it out and see what the reason is why she is doing this and what kind of action they are going to take. But its your job as a pet lover to speak up for a dog who cant.
Call the police the next time she does this! She won't know it was you but MANY dogs die like this. It is against the law in most areas to leave the animals in the car when it gets warm. This is cruelty and you can be the one to save this dogs life!
That is animal cruety! Yes! Take action she might kill the poor thing. Tell her why its bad and what she could do to her dog. But keep calm because it could be just a misunderstanding.
This is definitely animal cruelty. The temperature inside of a car by itself can easily be 20 degrees hotter than the temperature outside, even with the windows cracked. Then, if you add the sun and a hot-blooded, panting dog, the interior of the car is practically an oven. I do not know where you are from, but I believe ALL 50 of the United States have laws making it illegal for you to leave your dog in an unattended car for even a minute. If you have a local animal protection agency, I would make an anonymous call about this situation. If you don't have such an agency in your area, call your Humane Society, and if either of these fail, simply call the police. I know it sucks to have to get your coworker in trouble for this, but ANY pet owner should know of these laws, and be aware of the consequences for breaking them. In most states, this law constitutes the very same punishment for something as serious as actual physical abuse towards animals. If you can't leave your dog at home while you're at work, DON'T GET A DOG.
Dog locked in car is automatically animal cruelty (unless youre a K-9 officer apparently).
