What do I do if my dog has taken a liking to the wrong person2007-11-25 2:51:17

We just got a dog and I was the one that payed for it, expecting it to love everyone in the family equally! It did at first but a couple days after we had it, it strangely took a liking to my young sister!!! It does everything she says, comes when she calls her and it's really not fair cuz I spent every cent that i had on it! It's like the dog doesn't even notice the rest of the family and she doesn't listen to a word that we say! How can we get her to like everyone equally!?! It's driving me crazy!!!! X*O

Answers:

Start carrying snacks in your pocket, and whenever you tell your dog to sit or come to you give her a snack. I did this and the three dogs we have always follow me. Mention your name to your dog and say (for example)"Follow Chelsea...good girl!" following it up with a snack. No way for the dog to love everybody equally unless you all do this. They actually pick their master. My hubby bought me a cutie male cockapoo and now Snowball belongs to my hubby lol, but we have two more (girls) and they follow me around. Maybe get another dog.

Dog's are like people, they choose who they like. I rescued my older dog and I'm even the one who takes care of her and she ADORES my husband over me. Now my second dog thinks I am the best thing ever put on the earth. You can't pick who the dog is going to like, but if you smother it with attention and take it for walks and train it yourself, it may DECIDE to like you better!!

The dog just loves her, ask your sister to teach you how she does it, maybe she knows more about dogs than you, i know you might feel dumb asking her to teach you, but thats how it works, my older sister asked me how i was great w/ animals, just don't be jealous though, don't ruin the moment for your sis, maybe that's all she really needs right now, some one or dog that will give her attention. ;-)

lol...well many dogs (especially guardian breeds such as rotties, german shepherds, chows...etc) usually gravitate towards one member of the family. there is nothing really wrong with that, the dog may view her as "pack leader" and thats why it may listen more to her then you.
