What do i do if a ticks head is stuck in my doggie2007-11-25 2:51:16Answers:

I have heard that you can coat it thoroughly with vaseline; the tick cannot breathe and backs out.

When I was a kid we used to take lit matches to ticks on our legs but that's probably not a good idea with all the dog hair around, don't want to set the dog ablaze.

You could just get a good flea and tick drop like Advantix, apply it to the dog and maybe save a bit to drop directly on the tick as well.

There is really nothing to do. Put some antibiotic cream on it and keep it clean.

NOTE: I tough it was already pull out and the head is still in the dog. So my answer is not correct. I'm really sorry.

Tweezing it Out

Pull the surrounding hairs away from the ticks body. Take the tweezers and grasp the tick as close to the buried head as you can possibly get. Do NOT squeeze, but pull gently up and away from the dog, slowly to be sure not to break off the head of the tick. Toss tick in toilet and flush. Wash your hands and your dog's skin with anti-bacterial soap.

If you suspect you may have left a piece of tick still embedded under your pet's skin, please seek veterinary care immediately. The resulting infections could be horrible, and ticks carry a plethora of nasty diseases.

Note: Burning the tick out is NOT recommended. You are more likely to burn yourself and your dog than to remove the tick.

If the whole tick is still entact, get either a hairdryer or embossing gun, and burn the tick (careful not to burn the dog), and it should backup out from under the skin.

Take him to the vet.it really could wind up in the veins and get pumped up to the heart. Also, if the tick is of the toxic variety, your dog will wind up paralysed before it eventually kills him/her.
