he's like really small and needs to gain weight!
Answers:Puppy food is specially made to help puppies gain weight at a normal rate. Also, if he is not neutared, he wont gain as much weight. Dogs and cats will gain weight after they are spayed or neutared (usually about a 10% increase post-op. weight gain).
Just be careful, you do not want to over feed him, but at the same time, you need to make sure that he is meeting his requirements...
Personally, i use Dad's dog and puppy food with our puppies, but, you dont have to use a specific kind. You can talk to your vet and see what he/she recommends...
I definatly recomment getting him neutared though...

Don't make your puppy fat.
Most puppies go through stages where they're lanky, and many (depending on the breed) do not start to fill in until they are about two or three years old. That is perfectly fine.
The ideal weight on any dog is when you can put your hand on their spine, fingers facing downward, and you can easily feel their ribs underneath the skin - but cannot see them when you're looking at your dog. If you can't see your pup's ribs, then he doesn't need to be made "fat" and he doesn't need to gain weight - with a proper diet, he will fill out as he gets older.
get any kind of food that is puppy formula for large breed dogs, but try a wet/canned food first to get him to the weight that you want and then keep him that weight with the hard food that's puppy formula for large breed dogs!!
Just feed him a high quality/ higher calorie puppy food. And open feed him. (meaning keep his bowl in his reach 24/7 with food in the bowl) but be careful he doesnt gain too much weight.
Take him to a Vet for a check up and worming etc. He may not be able to gain weight due to worms or another health problem or it could be that he is normal for his breed or mixture of breeds. I have three dogs and one is naturally very thin and the Vet says that is healthy for HER.
