What do if I remove a tick from my dog2007-11-25 2:51:20

I just found a tick on my dog and removed it with tweezers. I wiped the area with disinfectant, but now what??? What should I do?

Answers:

If you have some antibiotic cream just put a dap on the spot where the tick was. I usually flush the tick.

Your dog will be fine. If some of the tick did remain in the dog the cream will help it not get infected.

Make sure you got the head out of the dog too...if left in there your dog could become quite sick. Also, you may want to buy a tick/flea preventative and apply it to your dog. Hope this helps!

it depends on if the dog is still having problems with ticks if so take your dog to the vet and ask if you can use revolution for the ticks and fleas it works.

, Oprah had a show about all kinds of stuff and the doctor said tweezers them out and if the head comes off , pull it out too. Grab the tick with the tweezers and pull it straight out, same with the head.

Keep some neosporin on the spot, that's about it.

Squish the tick and flush the remains.

Get rid of the tick and go about your business. Next time, try a gentler removal method. If you grab the tick by the belly with tweezers, it'll vomit into the skin and increase the risk of infection. There are methods like a loop of dental floss, or even using your fingers, that don't require that you grab the tick's belly, which I'm pretty sure you had to do using tweezers.

Thats funny, I just removed a tick from my dog too! Well, so I've heard, you want to make sure that you get the head out, but my vet said that if you don't the area will become infected and eventually excrete the head on its own (Yuck!). So not to worry! If your really worried about it, I would just call your vet, but it sounds like your dog will be fine.
