What do you do with a dog that has nipped someone
My dog has been fab when i had a little baby. as the baby has grown she had developed an interest in the dog. He's allowed her to cuddle him and stroke him then when hes had enough gets up but the other day he snared at her and nipped her. This has shook me up as he's been so good in the past. he nipped her on the face near her eye so looks worse than perhaps it was as obviously he could have down real damage. My dog means the world to me but I can't get it out of my head what he's done.
i've kept them apart every since and not allowed him the free run of the downstairs like he usually does. Can anyone offer any advice or suggestions?
Answers:id never let a small child anywhere near a dog unless i was holding her while she was patting him.
this is because small kids are annoying and they dont go away.
look at it from a dogs point of view. small kids arent always gentle, they are grabby and touchy, and small hands go places where the dog isnt comfortable like its face.
a small child doesnt actually have to tease a dog to annoy it.
the only way a dog can tell a child that she is annoying it is by growling and/or biting - it doesnt mean its an aggressive dog.
how was her head so close to the dogs face, unless he actually came after her?
my advice - dont ever let any child go near a dog unless under direct supervision. and by that i mean, unless you are holding the child, away from the dogs front end, for only a mnute or two minute.
