Is it one month old or one year old?

If it is one month old, you will need to make a mush out of a safer puppy food (like Wellness, or Newman's Own- since so many foods are on recall, or have been and then are again) by adding puppy formula (Esbillac or Just Born) that is warmed. Make it thinner to start. After a few days, if your pup is lapping that up, you can thicken it gradually. By six weeks if large breed or eight weeks if small, it should be able to eat the food without the addition of formula or warm water. Once your pup eats, you need to have fresh water always provided.

Feed four to five times a day. Discard what it does not eat within 15 min to half hr.

If you intend to home cook for the pup, do a web search on home cooked diets and make the pup a pureed version with added puppy formula to thin it out some.

The fact is, there are reasons that people get puppies that are too young to take from the mother. I bottle raised a two and a half week old pup and had to wean it myself because she would otherwise have gone to the pound and been put to sleep. Today she is a healthy 56 lbs and a GREAT dog. Regardless of how you got the pup, if it is away from the mother, then you are the caretaker and it makes sense you are asking HOW TO do it.
