What do you think about poodles2007-11-25 2:51:29

What do you think of toy poodles? I would like a small lap dog that i could take with me. Are really hyper like some people say. Are they thinking dogs (dogs that think and seem to have a mind unlike some breeds) What do you like better..boys or girls? Any first hand info on poodles would be really nice!

If you get a well bred one, they make EXCELLENT pets.

They're super smart and active, but not hyper. They need a moderate amount of exersize, but lots of interaction or they get bored.

Consider shelters, and breed rescue. The SPCA or animal control in your area should have the numbers for Poodle rescues.

Any toy breed can be hyper they need to be socialized straight away and trained. That is a smart breed and you want to pick out a very friendly pup. Check out the parents and see what their temperaments are like. If you do all that you and your new pup should be fine. Good luck;^)

I'm a dog lover but somehow i could never bring myself around to like a poodle. I have 4 corgis of my own. great dogs, loving,friendly,intelligent, but they can be on the hefty side males up to 27 pounds, females 25 pounds. I have small size corgis the most is 20 pound for mine while another is 13. Each have their own personality. One is a lover and learns how learns quickly. Another loves to watch TV, especailly of horses. I prefer male neutered dogs, but it really depends on the dog - if you are buying one from a breeder then choose a mellow one - not one that would charge at you and not one that stays away (shy). You kinda want one that's in between - not very interested yet doesn't mind you approaching. As a pup, they should already display the behaviors of what they will be like when they are full grown.

Poodle are cute, but they are whiners and expect full attention. They are very intelligent and can do loads of tricks. Like any small dog, they will yap. I love poodles, but keep in mind that vet bills will be expensive for the small dogs are susceptible to diseases and need shots. Sometimes, the shots will make them ill for their systems are fragile. My dog gets sick easily because the shots do something to her system and she's a small American Eskimo. Get a girl poodle if you're planning on getting one because males pee all over. Good luck.

I love them!! I'm doing an animal care course atm, and 2 other students bring their poodles in! The other week, they brought in their toy poodles and they were absolutely beautiful!! Exceptionally affectionate! =D =D

People keep asking this. Is this breed or that breed good. Would It make a good dog for me. That is what you want in a dog. Your lifestlye were you live, your health should tell you . look up what breed you are interested in and see if they meet what you need. Never buy a dog without reserch

I've had three poodles in my lifetime and all had distinctive personalities. One was laid back and mellow, one was very hyper in a good way---entertaining and comedic. And the third one was right in between, neither laid back or hyper. Most poodles are very smart and can learn tricks quickly. They love being lap dogs, too. I have no preferences between males and the females. Good luck with your decision.

the thing with poodles is that they snap, so just watch out around small children, etc.
