What does my mixed akita/mutt get aggressive toward young children under 7
she goes right for the face like she is attacking them,she starting doing that to one of my roommates daughters friend and then to one little 1 yr old and then last night to a 4 or 5 yr old. please someone tell me something before she hurts someone by accident.
Answers:Some dogs get nervous around children because they are not used to the movements a child makes. Quick awkward movement can set off bad behaviour in some dogs and this sounds like it may be the case with your dog. You may not realise the child is doing anything abnormal, but children react and move different then adults do. The only thing you can really do is make the dog feel safe around the child. Hold the dog's head and allow the child to gently pet its back. After a few minutes the dog should realise the child posses no threat. But keep a close eye on the two of them until you feel like the dog can be trusted. If this doesn't work, KEEP THEM SEPARATED TO PREVENT ANY ACCIDENTS.
Well, after reading up on them akitas aren't as tolerant as other breeds and are not suggested to be brought around small children because the kid might irritate the dog. And it might have something to do with it being half "mutt" because that is strongly suggested to be separated from children. I wouldn't bring that kid around the dog anymore because it probably bothers the dog.
this is no accident, you need to re train your dog right from the beginning you need to get this dog under your control completely and you need to be wary of this dog around children from this point onwards. You are now in a situation that if you do not act accordingly somone will get hurt and you will be in sorts of hellish trouble. Alternatively you need to rehome the dog to somone that is capable of controling and training an Akita properly...before you give the Akita further bad reputation.
The first thing you must do is keep her away from children. At this point, any inconvenience to you needs to be put aside - this dog is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Do not put her in a position to make a mistake.
