What dog breed for me2007-11-25 2:52:15

I had a sheltie when I lived in Abilene. They are very smart, kid friendly and very protective of their kid. and they don't yap, they bark.

i wouldnt pick a dog better than a american staffordshire bull terrior, i have two, they are great with children good with people easy to train excellent to excercise, and they are very loyal loving dogs, and they arent tempermental, they LOVE water they barely shed and they great companions good luck with your search.

If you want a purebred, try a Boxer, they are gentle, loving, playful, and very athletic. Their short hair makes them ideal for the near desert conditions of the Texas region. It would also be fun to see a Chihuahua do agility (tee hee hee). A standard beagle (the big ones, not the little 6 to 12 inchers) would also be fun to agility train, and would adapt well to the heat of Texas. I hope this helps.
Hi I have some suggestions from ur info:

Dalmation: These dogs shed A LOT! They need lots of exersise every day, like running. I haven't seen them in agility contests, but I can tell you, they love to play frisbee! And since their hair is short, they don't mind the heat too much.

Sometimes they can get hyper with children though, but your child seems experienced.

Standard Poodle: I love these dogs! They don't need as much exersize as a dalmation, and don't shed, but I've heard they are exellent at preforming tricks and stunts! So maybe you would like to try agility with them.
