Greyhounds/other sighthounds: Sighthounds were bred for speed and need about 1 1/2 to 2 hrs of daily exersize including running around a track. IN ancient times, I think they were bred to hunt Gazelle and antelope in the deserts. But be sure you fence is high, they can jump incredibly! Some sighthound breeds include: English Greyhound, Afghan Hound, Saluki, Sloughi, Whippet (the smaller of the family next to Italian Greyhound), Hungarian Greyhound, Borzoi aka Russian Wolfehound.

Collie (not border, perhaps smooth): Collies, as you might know, are herding dogs so they are very athletic and have great agility. The short haired collie has a coat similar in length to a Dalmation.

Australian Cattle dog: They are wildly energetic, but can somtimes be wary of strangers. These dogs are really cute and about 30 lbs, smaller than the dogs mentioned above.

Last words: Mutts are also great!!!

How about a Labrador Retriever sounds like they would fit into your life perfectly. They are very loving and friendly, they are intelligent and versatile, they need exercise and their favorite thing is to be with you. They are completely devoted to you, they love other dogs and kids, they are very affectionate and easy to train. I take my Lab everywhere with me. They love swimming (mine is always in his pool or the lake) I take him to parties, kayaking (my favorite) sledding and snowmobling. They are just a great dog to be around.

Look into a Boxer. They are an inside dog, but are very active and love to play. The reason why they need to be indoors mostly is because they have a short nose, like a pug, and in the heat, can't sweat and breathe at the same time. They are still an awesome dog and this is something you can work around. Plenty of water and a break when they get hot.
