What dog breed is right for me
Thinking of going to a shelter and finding a pet. I'm def. looking for a med. or small sized dog. I don't have a lot of money... so I'd need a breed that doesn't tend to have a lot of medical issues. I know all dogs get sick, I'm just saying I don't need a breed that is known for having extreme medical issues Something that would be both frisky and cuddly and at least moderately trainable. I currently am between jobs so would have plenty of time for him, but it will eventually have to be able to be home alone up to 9 hours at a time. I have over 5 acres of land here so a fenced area for the day would be easy...am open to getting two for them to have company.
Let me clarify... this isn't a spur of the moment thought... I've thought of this for over 4 years. now would simply be a good time to act since I have time to spend with the dog while he adjusts.
any recommendations?
Answers:Definitely an older dog, not a puppy. Keep in mind smaller dogs have smaller bladders and tend to be "needy". I have a 5 year-old mutt, about 40 lbs, who is perfect. Spend time with the dog before you make a decision and take your time! Also obedience right off the bat will not only help with training but will help you bond with your pet. Don't base anything on what you've heard about specific breeds, these often are stereotypes. Dogs have individual personalities, much like people.
