Because people will think they are better than a mixed breed and pay a whole lot of money for it because they will think because it's designer it has to be special when in fact it's just another mixed breed that they would hardly pay anything for.

Easy way to make money, off of people who don't know any better. That's my opinion, at least.

If they don't realize that they can find many of these mixes in the local shelters & rescues, then they should do more searching, before allowing themselves to be ripped off.

Backyard breeders got greedy, and an uninformed public stoked the fire. When I walked to the box to get my mail the other day, I seriously saw a sign with somebody wanting $300 for a several-year-old Cockapoo or some other nasty, yappy wad of mongrel fur.

Good question.. But it's a marketing play.. You breed mixed breed dogs, and pretend they are something that they aren't, and you charge high prices and people who like to have something different from what their friends have go in droves and buy up the mixed breed puppies.. Then they go home happy thinking that they have something rare.. They don't, they have the same mixed breed puppy that is in the shelter for a mere fraction of that price..
