What is it and how to animals get it?? Is it possible that i can get it from my pets?? I know the answers but wanna see if anyone else does. Good Luck.

Answers:

Leptospirosis as a bacteria that causes acute renal failure and/or liver failure. Common symptoms include fever, anorexia, dehydration, lethargy, & vomiting. It is transmitted via infected urine; can also be found in contaminated water/soil. Potential carriers include raccoons, possum, deer, rodents, cattle, pigs, and/or horses. It is very important to handle infected animals with gloves at all times, especially excretions. It is zoonotic to humans.

Leptospirosis is an infection with a bacteria of the Leptospira family that is spirochete shaped. Dogs, other animals and humans can all contract them through contact with contaminated urine, water or soil through their mucus membranes, open cuts, or actually drinking water contaminated by the bacteria.

Sometime's also called Weil's disease though technically this is only true in the acute form that can affect humans.

There are more "mild" forms of the infection that are far more common.

It's a bacterial infection mainly associated with animals and those who's occupations bring them into contact with those animals such as farmers, vets, sewer workers etc etc.

It's considered particualrly common amongst the rat population.

It's spread by the contaminated urine of animals and is not generally passed from person to person.

Wearing gloves and boots in a working environment are the best ways to avoid contact along with making sure any open cuts are covered.

Washing your hands after any work and before eating is almost so obvious it shouldn't need to be stated.

If required, pet immunization can be an option.
