Be very, very carefull. Not all flea and tick products are safe on puppies, especially the discount store brand. I would look for a product made by Adams, then read the labels, and go from there. Or check with your vet. Good luck!

You really want to wait until 12 weeks or older before using anything over the counter.

If your puppy has fleas you can kill them by washing in Dawn dish detergent and letting it sit for 5 min and rinsing really well. There is a product, I know Petsmart sells it, called deflea that comes in a spray and shampoo that is safe for puppies that young (you can also use it on pregnant dogs and kittens).

But if your dog does not have fleas wait until at least 12 weeks before treating.

I was a vet tech and our veterinarian recommended using just plain old regular advantage. We would even put a couple of drops on pups just a few days old. The label says not to, but they are covering their butts. I would still check with a professional to make sure you don't give too much, but it works great. Just make sure it is regular advantage and not the new kind they just came out with.
