What happens to me if I get hookworkms from my dog2007-11-25 2:52:16

Just make sure you wash your hands good and you should not have any problems. These worms are not in their stool like most other worms.

No need to be frightened. Hook worms usually come from the mother milk and is trasmitted to the pup . It can also come into your dog through the poop of another dog who is infested. I dont see how you and your family can get infected if you follow some simple hygene rules. Like picking up your dog poop and after doing so wash yourhands completely. Since your dog has been given the proper medication by your vet then it will kill all the hook worms in your dog.

Having had dogs for many years now, and dogs that have gotten hookworms, i have never heard of people catching them. No one in our house as ever caught them. How ever that does not mean it can not happen I guess. People can get worms, like tape worms, pin worms, etc. Mostly children get these worms because they do not have clean hands and are always putting their fingers in their mouths. DO NOT BE SCARED, If you were to be infected it is not DEADLY. If you get symtoms of stomach aches, or nausa, or throwing up worms, or pooing worms, call the Dr. Immediately and you can get medicine to kill them no big deal. Many children get pin worms and there is over the counter medicine for this. My great grandfather told me a story years ago I never forgot. Said he went to the outhouse to potty and had a worm coming out of his butt, took a stick a twisted it a round it and pulled it out, then went in the house screaming to his mother! He said his mother made him drink, sulfur and molasses and he pooed like crazy and the problem was cured. Don't worry, this is not really a big deal!
