What has happened to dogs
A friend of mines father bought a mastif a few years ago because he loved the breed and remembered it from his childhood in the 30 s. . His father had two or three and they went out on exercise with the hunt horses for miles and miles ...great big strong dogs . My friends father's mastif only lived til he was 6 and couldn't walk down to the end of the garden . I have a friend who was thinking of either getting a peke or a yorkshire but she has been advised against it as their house has three floors and these breeds would need to be carried as their backs are not strong enough .
Who are these idiots who breed dogs now ? What a terrible shame the jack russel is now in the kennel club.
Answers:Its sad isnt it? I love dogs so much and I love alot of different breeds, what makes me sad is that alot of them are bred to the detriment of their health... GSD's with their backs so sloped they are crippled so young, Peke's with their eyes popping out of their heads because they are bred to look that way, Boston Terriers can't even give birth naturally they have to have C-sections, its terribly horrifying that people continue to breed dogs to look a certain way even though it lowers their quality of life... They dont have to, but they do anyway. Its all really for vanity, it may be couched in concern for "improving" the breed and whatnot but it all comes down to a vague idea of perfection in the dog world which humans have. Dont get me wrong I love dogs, of all breeds... but seeing them crippled and dying before they are even middle aged as far as mutts go makes me very sad. It is true that alot pf people are trying to eliminate these health problems in purebred dogs, I hope they do succeed but with all the irresponsible BYB's and puppy mills, and yes unscrupulous "responsible" breeders, there is not much hope.. Another thing that bothers me is the horrible increase of cancer in dogs.. I mean we should take notice of this, its abnormal. Why are so many dogs dying of all these congenital defects and diseases... its sad and scary. You ask what has happened to dogs? well the answer is humans.. we have taken dogs away from nature, and the natural world to the detriment of their health.
The Yellow Labrador was the best of the two I had. The Irish Setter had long hair too difficult to take care of.
I think that it is sad how much they are charging for mutts. They cost just as much or more than a purebred now. Take a look at Labradoodles for instance.
