What is a REALLY nice family dog that is NOT protective (would a lab be good)
My brother gave away my dog,and i want a new one to keep me company. I have lots of family and friends co it cant be pretective
Answers:My dad had a lab, she was a very loving dog and she was not protective. My mom also has a Schnauzer and she is a very loving dog. And they are lap dogs. So if you like her to curl up beside you (or on you) this is a great one to get. She grew up with a big family so she loves the whole family, but they are more of a one person dog. I would not get a Rottweiler, I think they are sweet dogs and very beautiful, but they tend to be protective and a bit agressive sometimes. (Even though me and my ex had one she was a big baby), I definately wouldn't get a Pit Bull, they tend to be agressive and a one person dog as well. Some of them you can't trust, they are labeled for that, but if there are ANY small kids around I wouldn't chance it at all. Even if it grows up in your house and is around the kids all the time. I assume you don't like cats, they are very good companions. I used to have one named Pepper and he was such a good boy and he was my lap cat and he kept me good company and I could always turn to him when I was upset and he'd cheer me up. That is just a suggestion though. I'd say go with a Schnauzer or a lab (depending on what size dog you want.or a cat, if you like them). I hope this helps. Oh and I wouldn't go with a Cocker Spaniel as they tend to be a one person dog also (more so than a Schnauzer, and also more agressive, my sister has one and it snaps at her daughter (which is 3 by the way) sometimes. I wouldn't chance a Cocker Spaniel, even though they are beatiful dogs. German Shepards are good dogs and easily trained and so are Golden Retreivers.
I find Yorkshire Terriers to be less protective. They may be yippie, but they are really darn cute!
Golden Retrievers, oh man. Or you could get a German Shepherd, they're protective, but when they're introduced to someone, and shown that they're good people, they get over the protectiveness with that person.
well there is a difference between protective and agressive..protective is just a dog letting you know when people are there and warns you..aggressive is attacking..all dogs should be protective in my opinion, just not aggressive..but yes labs are good dogs..but from what it sounds like, if your brother gave away your last dog, should you really be getting another dog..
labs are GREAT they are very good family dogs and are not that protective, so are Golden Retrievers
any dog will be more protective than others if it is not socialized with alot of people when it is younger - the breed wont always be the determining factor - labs are known to be friendly just make sure you do socialize the dog with all different people as they come in your house - but keep in mind the dog will be somewhat protective over its owner regardless of how you train them - thats just love - just like a mother and child -
GOLDEN RETRIEVER you'll LOVE it. Gentle, easy going, non aggressive. Good Good mid size dog
depends. BIG DOG or, small dog, inside dog, or outside dog, child lover, or elderly kind. MORE INFO!!
Labs are good, goldens are good, if you are planning to buy from a breeder then try to select a more mellow pup. I have 3 corgis myself, getting my 4th, i love these dogs, great with kids and very friendly, easy to train, size isn't as big as a lab. it really depends on your preference and you need to be willing to spend time with the dog to train him. Get the dog well socialized with other dogs and other people so he won't get terrified and protective when unexpected visitors arrive.
oh.. yes!! Labs are the most amazing dogs!!! i had a yellow lab for 14 yrs and i have two kids.. she was the best dog!! big big suck.. i think the yellow labs have little better side to them than the chocolate or black labs.. but oh they are such a good beautiful dog to have around.. good luck in ur decision..
go to your local shelter and get an adult or near adult dog, most dogs are protective because they were not told to not be so when going up, you can find a good all around dog at the local shelter because they are all around good dogs who are mixed and normally do not have a breed specific trait like posessiveness or being overlly protective a good lab or beagle mix sould do you fine
Can't go wrong with a lab. They will be protective, but not agressive.
cocker spaniels! had one and he was my once in a life time dog!! sweet, loyal kind happy go lucky..
labs are great if you can handle high energy animals..
I love labs but I'd have to say a golden retriever. I have one myself and we frequently have 3 year old kids hanging around. The kids touch him and pet him and even ride on him but he doesn't mind. He just loves the attention. They're also very easy to train.
Any dog can be a good family dog if it is TRAINED properly.
