What is a fast and effective way to potty train a puppy
My puppy is about 4 months old and she just does not get it. She will go to the bathroom outside, but then she will go in and pee on my living room carpet. I do what I have read and say NO, then rub her nose in it, and immediately take her outside, but she just doesnt get it. What should I do??
Answers:Have you tried crate training her?
The fastest and most effective way to train a puppy is to set them up for success. That means- do not give them the opportunity to screw up, and reward everything that they do right. Your 4month old puppy should be supervised at all times. I know that sounds impossible, that is why you crate train her. When she is in her crate she is learning not to go to the bathroom outside, she is learning to chew her toys, and she stays out of trouble. When you are home keep her on a leash with you. This insures that if she messes up you can catch her in the act. I keep my puppy's favorite squeaky toy on a string tied to my belt so when I am doing work around the house he is right next to me. Be patient, she is young.
Don't forget to be incredibly consistent. She is trying to learn. Just help her.
maybe to the vet?
Some breeds are harder to train than others. If you have the time, the key is to take her out every hour and praise her when she relieves herself outside; scold her if she does so inside.
Crate training is another option as long as you don't leave her in there longer than 4-6 hours at the most without a bathroom break.
