As she begins to "get" it, you can leave the crate open and just block her in the room (e.g., kitchen) with a gate. If she goes on the floor, scold her and take her outside immediately.

I've had all kinds of dogs. Hounds (fox, beagle, etc.) are hard to train. Cockers are ok but a little strong-willed. Mutts are the easiest. Just my experience.

No you don't rub their noses in it! Set a timer for 20 mins and every time it goes off say want to go potty and take her outside. Then when she goes, go really overboard on praise telling her what a good girl she is and give her a cookie. Do it all over every time it goes off and she will be trained quickly. Dogs want to please their owners so if you show her how happy you are when she goes potty outside, she will want to continue making you happy. Talk to her so she learns to understand what you say. Never hit her! If she has an accident inside, tell her no and run her outside. If you keep up on it she should be trained shortly! Good Luck!

Maybe when she goes outside you should praise her a lot, or give her a treat. When she goes in the house, scold her. Eventually, she should learn that if she goes outside she will be rewarded, and inside she will be scolded.

You really shouldn't punish her she just don't understand yet to go out side, Crate training is the fastest way when your not home(small crate just big enough for her to turn around and lay dawn NO food and water), and just take her outside every 30 min when you are home, reward her when she does what she's supposed to do!

Confine puppy to an area. Put newspaper over whole area. Each day remove some of the newspaper until you only have one piece left. Then move the newspaper out the door, and eventually to where you want the puppy to"go"

My lab mix was very stubborn. I walked her and crated her as many have suggested. I did not rub her nose in it, nor did I punish her. She would not poop outside though. She would come in and wait until I turned my back and then poop. The last time she did this, I pushed her nose in it and gave her a noisy pat from a rolled up newspaper. I said NO NO sharply as I did this. She asked to go out after that. I would try not to punish, but a little negative reinforcement is good if the puppy is stubborn.

I've just begun to see some real improvement in the same type of behavior that you've described. For my dog, I think some of the success comes from maturation. He was a year old last week on Friday, and he seems to get it.
