What is a good guard dog that will get along with a baby that is on the way and 2 labs2007-11-25 2:52:23

we also had a black lab that would let us kids crawl all over her and she NEVER bit any one, and she effectively turned out entire yard into a door bell, as soon as someone set foot on the grass she started barking but she would stop as soon as the person got through the door.

i would look into getting a border terrier they may be small but they are tuff and they get along wit other dogs very well. Or i would just train the labs to be bc labs are always family dogas but u can teach em to be protective

How come you need a ' Guard Dog ' ??? You have the 2 labs, yeah they might not actually attack, but any dog that barks, other than a little tiny thing is going to be a deterrent.

If people need more than a deterrent to protect themselves or their stuff.. they should buy a security system with a camera.. Dogs can be killed in the line of duty.. Why would you put your companion in that position ? If you are buying a dog soley for protection and he isn't going to be a member of the family, that's just cruel.

Get the security system w/ camera.. That way you have proof for court if you need it.. Insurance will cover it, if someone destroys it.. It will get along with both your current dogs and the baby.

Forget the dog for guarding you.. They are companions, and friends.. Even tho they would gladly give their life for me, I would never ask any of my dogs to do that. I am here to care for and protect them, not to ask them to protect me.

I have mutts and kids. now that it is nice out my oldest who is 4 wants to be out side 24/7, i can't be with her the whole time with a baby and house crap to do. so my dogs who are mutts stay in the yard with her. they bark should anyone come near the gate or walk by the house. they play fetch with her and well are her best friends. they are lab mixes. they sound like they would rip in to someone. would they? i don't know and i hope some idoit is not dumb enough to find out. i believe they would protect my kids though.
