What is a good guard dog that will get along with a baby that is on the way and 2 labs2007-11-25 2:52:23

we had our dogs a year before the had the oldest kid. we did the whole bring a blanket home, had friends over that had babies. the one dog ajusted faster...he was at my daughters side...she would fall asleep on him. when she first was learning to sit alone he would lay behind her and be her pillow. the other he was not so happy...and he did growl at her a few time.if she did something...he has long hair and HATED it pulled...but its been worked through. it just takes training and time and now he just loves the new baby, he still is happier way from her. but he knows he is to just get up and walk away from the baby...while the other doesn't mind his ears pulled...eyes poke...fingers up his nose...which of course i correct the baby.

why do u want a gaurd dog? trust me finding time for the 2 will be hard enough. and i'm sure they will need more training. another dog or pup now just is not a great idea...wait.

good luck and congrats.

i think its a rottweiler..
a Doberman not a Rottweiler because the Doberman get along with kids
I've had Rottweilers since I was a little girl. They are amazing with children and great watch dogs. They really don't even have to do anything, when someone who wants to rob your house sees it I'm sure they'll just turn and decide to go do somethin else. I would've suggested a Pit Bull because they are great guard dogs and despite the media they are really good with children (depending on their treatment which can be said for any dog) but they can sometimes be animal aggressive and you don't want to introduce that into the lab family you have now. Labs are very much family oriented dogs and I'm sure if it came to it they would protect your family. You might want to just stick with them for the time being and see how they do and if you're going to have the energy for another dog as well as what you have now. Other breeds I would suggest are: German Shepherds, Dobermans, Blue Heelers, and Mastiffs. Good luck!
a giant schnauzer. an unusally dog that is very affectionate with a great bark
