What is a good, low maintenance, indoor dog2007-11-25 2:51:41

We live in Florida and are looking for a dog for our apartment. We generally want the dog to stay in one room of the apartment. We are interested in a dog that has minimal shedding and drooling, and is generally low maintenance. We do not have a yard where the dog can run around freely. Although there is a park to run around under supervision. Any suggestions?

Well terriers make good low maintenance dogs. The thing is you should never just leave the dog in one room inless you are not at home. There are alot of great little dogs that make good indoor pets but please dont just leave them in one room.

Shih Tzus are wonderful for apartments. They have long hair but do not shed as they have hair and not fur. They however want to be able to roam the apartment but are not destructive. They are sweet and lovable.

small to medium size mixed breed is always something to consider. Short hair, of course, although they will still shed. Brushing everyday can help with that.

You can research different breeds to find one that sounds right for you, but also don't forget about animal shelters-lots of great dogs waiting for adoption. Most dogs you get from a shelter are already spayed/neutered.

Their non allergic coats make them popular among people who have not been able to enjoy pets because of their allergies.

Lhasa Apso's are a low maintenance and perfect apartment pets as they don't require much exercise and pretty much couch potatoes.
