What is a list of fruit and vegetables that are not safe for my dog2007-11-25 2:51:42

My dogs love fruit and vegetables, better then those beggin strips. I use to feed them grapes, but my vet now says it could kill them. I was wondering is there any others I should be aware of?

Here is a list I found. Won't swear to accuracy tho.

Avocados (fruit, pit, and plant) 鈥?toxic, causes breathing

difficulties and pancreatitis.

Grapes and raisins 鈥?kidney failure

Tomatoes 鈥?鈥渢remors and heart arrhythmias鈥?br />Nutmeg 鈥?causes seizures, tremors and death

Caffeine 鈥?causes 鈥渧omiting, restlessness, heart palpitations鈥?and death

Diet products 鈥?drop in blood sugar

Macadamia nuts 鈥?muscle tremor, weakness and paralysis

Walnuts - poisonous

Fruit pips, seeds 鈥?poisonous since it contains cyanide

Salt 鈥?dog may develop bloating due to too much drinking

Ham and bacon 鈥?pancreatitis

Liver (raw or uncooked)- Vitamin A deficiency

As far as the vegetables entry, I bred German Shepherds for 18 years and all of mine loved baby carrots and it never hurt them. I know you should avoid giving them chocolate, but if it's a one time or seldom kinda thing I don't think it will kill them.

I have a huge list of foods to be aware of, quite a shocker I must say. Didn't know apples could be lethal! Have to be more careful!
