What is fair to charge for stud fees for my male yorkie terrier2007-11-25 2:52:27

I have a pair of yorkies what have recently had a littler. I actually purchased the female a year ago for the male to have a buddy and to have puppies which I had planned on giving their offspring to each one of my sisters free. After all was said and done, my sisters have decided not to take a puppy and since I hadn't planned on selling any, I have been asked if I would be willing to let my male provide stud services for a fee. How much is fair?

Is he an AKC Champion? Are all of his health clearances done? What's so special about him that makes you feel he is worthy of producing? Where are his conformational flaws? What kinds of health issues are in his pedigree with his ancestors? If you can't answer these questions, then neuter him because as a stud dog he is worthless other then contributing to the over population of purebred MUTTS.

i have seen regestered studs services for between 200-1000. usually it is approx the price of pick of the litter.

Well, there are many factors to consider. First is he purebred, and more importantly, has he been vet checked? It is important to determine if he is physically healthy for passing on his genes. Also, how big is he? The smaller yorkies tend to be worth more. What seems to be common practise is either pick of the litter or the price of a pup. Hope this helps.

I too have a male Yorkie, who as of Mar.26th,turned a year old. My vet told me at his last "shot" visit, that while she generally doesn't advocate "breeding" to many, (which is by the way, a good indicator that she is a good vet) thought my LIL Kodi would be a good representative of the breed due to his overall appearance and especially good knees...this breed has a weakness in this area sometimes. His family history is good as well with his father appearing in shows.
