Also, about the cleanliness factor, dogs have cleaner mouths than humans. They have certain healing enzymes in their spit, so although it may seem icky, it's actually OK.

dogs lick us because they like the taste. its salty to them. especially the hands because they sweat. the gnawing that shes doing is just what some puppies do. theyre playing around. my dog used to do that and she still does it when were playing but its a good thing because she knows not to bite my face, instead she'll gnaw at my hand.

Is this normal? You may need to take him to a vet, cause he may be in some kind of pain.

She could be teething, we have an 8 week old puppy and she loves to lick all the time... showing affections I would guess... but when it comes to the gnawing... we try our best to tell her to stop... and give her a chew toy for its much better for her to teeth on that then your hand... one thing we found that works very well is something called greenies... you can find them in most any pet type store. The puppy's love to chew on them and they help with the teething and they are good for the teeth as well. They are actually green in color and look like tooth brushes. I highly recommend them to anyone one that has a puppy.

not normal, weird My nine year old bichon constantly licks, if not me, she's licking her feet. Frankly, I'd rather she lick me, but it gets annoying.
