He may complain and carry on for a day or so when you first start crate-training. Stick it out, he'll get used to it and eventually they come to regard the crate as their 'safe place', their 'bedroom' so to speak. Even after he is reliable in the house and the crate door is left open, you'll find that he'll go in and lay down in there when he wants to chill.

Putting your puppy in an outdoor kennel overnight will not help you to housebreak him. The area is too big to be like a "den" to him. It will encourage him to go on eliminating whenever and wherever he feels the urge.

Later on, after you've gotten him housebroken, if you use an outdoor kennel as a training tool, not a place to house him, it can help to build confidence and independence in a dog to spend some time alone in the kennel.

All dogs will, at some point in their lives, need to be boarded, or hospitalized and if they've been conditioned to that kind of confinement and alone time, those experiences won't bother them nearly as much as a dog that has never had that experience at all.

Take care that your kennel is completely escape proof and secure, from the ground up. Staffies and pitties are notoriously good climbers and powerful diggers. They're also frequently the targets of thieves.

Resist the urge to leave your dog kenneled outdoors when you're not home or as an alternative to the work involved in housebreaking and teaching household manners. They want and need your companionship and training to become well-adjusted members of your family.

I disagree with most on this i have a border collie who has a litter of 10 healthy 3 week old pups and yep they are all outside My dog comes inside every now and then but she wont sleep inside at all she loves being outside and of a night time she is not aggressive in anyway very love-able .. My sister also has a staffy she works full time and he is also outside .. and nothing wrong with him either i think it is how we bring our pets up not the breed of the dog i love my dog and would do anything for her but this is how we are and how she is .. so you can't tell someone that they HAVE TO have there dogs inside ..Little dogs maybe but big dogs No i don't agree I am expecting neg res ponce to this one ... but i have tough skin
