What is the absolute BEST way to scold a puppy for going potty in the house2007-11-25 2:52:31

why would you scold a puppy who doesn't know any better?? crate train him and when he goes potty outside PRAISE him... if you catch him in the act inside, a simple UT UH HONEY will suffice , as you gently pick him up and quickly take him outside to go potty... c'mon now,, would you scold a 1 year old infant for peeing in a diaper??????...

If you catch him in the act, yell no loudly, take him outside (even if he is still peeing) and have him finish out there and if he does... remember to praise praise praise!! If you dont catch him in the act- then there is nothing you can do about it- puppies are smart enough to remember what they did 5 minutes ago.

Lay newspapers around the house,in places where you seldom walk.Keep guiding your puppy to each bathroom location.If he does not make it to his newspaper,quickly escort him outside or to the nearest newspaper that you laid.This should help.

If you catch him in the act, just gently say no no and rush him outside. If you catch it after the fact, forget it, he has no clue he did anything wrong. The best way to potty train is positive reinforcement and tons of praise when they do something right, and also a treat. Don't make a big deal about the mistakes, he is just a baby. Just like you would not scold a human baby for soiling their diaper. Good luck with your puppy!

if i see my dog doing it she gets a spanking witha very loose rolled up news papper i know it doesnt hurt her it just hurts her feelings i did that about 2 days and now she makes it a point to go outside

well wat i did with my dog is i put his nose really close to it, told him NO in a firm voice & not hard, but hit the top of his nose & now when he has to go he will hold it for a long time because he doesnt want to get in trouble.

don't scold by yelling or hitting, or a time out session. Those have no effect at all on the dog. When the dog makes a mess in the house, this goes for all messes, bring your dog over to the mess, point to it, and say NO loudly and clearly. Then give a light pat on the muzzle and leave it at that. You can usually tell if your dog knows right from wrong because after he did something bad, he will put his tail between his legs.
