I have NEVER heard of this being done and I believe it would be an inhuman practice at best. If you want a dog that doesn't bark you should look into the breed that is born mute.

If you are talking about having the dog's vocal cords altered to prevent barking, or doing any kind of surgery to prevent the dog from barking, you should do the dog a real kindness and turn it over to the humane society so they can find it a good home.

It's is cruelty to animals to "debark" a dog! If you want a dog that doesn't bark, buy a breed that doesn't tend to bark, or train it... but don't surgically impair it's ability to bark. That's abuse!

Please tell me you are kidding? I would recommend training the dog not trying to find some procedure to take away it's ability to warn you of danger or express it's happiness.

That is horrible. At the very very most, I would look into getting a bark collar, it will give them a little shock when they bark, it teaches them not too. Even if there is such a thing as debarking, that is horrible.

You probably will not be able to find a vet that will even de-bark a dog, as most find it to be morally wrong (I have yet to meet a vet that would even consider doing it). If you can find a vet that will do it, it will probably be fairly expensive ($500+). The larger the dog, the higher the price.
