What is the best dog for family with a single working parent and two Jocks that our constanly doing2007-11-25 2:51:52

We are lookin for a cute small dog preferably with short hair. We like the Jack Russel but it needs a lot of attention. Both kids in the family are always doing sports and football season have practice everyday and the mother is at work during the day. What would be a dog that is right for us?

I suggest going down to the animal shelter and picking out a young adult dog of any breed. Pick the dog by the individual, because judging by breed may surprise you. Have a meet and greet, and see if the pup's personality suits your home. Good luck :)

Sounds like your household does not really have time for a dog at this point - not fair to the animal!

If you would get a dog I would get a chihuahua. Since you don't have that much time on your hands you should probably get 2 that way they can keep each other company when no one else is there. Dogs get lonely too.

I would throw the dog idea out the window unless people are home in the evenings to give the pup the attention it needs, maybe adopt an older laid back sort of dog (one that dosen't mind running around chasing balls and kids but wouldn't stress out if no one was home for several hours)

Dogs, especially puppies, demand alot of attention, please don't be selfish and deprive them of it. I agree, that a Bassiett Hound would be a good choice, and older one, not a puppy. Good luck!
