What is the best way to get de-skunk my dog, besides tomato2007-11-25 2:52:02

It may be particularly hard to get the odor out of those dogs who have thick double coats. If quick action is not taken it is possible to smell the odor on your dog for up to two years, especially when the dog gets wet.

They recommend store bought cleaners like:

Man, I don't envy you at all. Last week, my puppy got into a pile of rotting fishworms and stunk to high heaven. A few baths and some groomer's cologne took care of it though.

Using tomato juice will only give you a red dog. That stuff doesn't work..it's an old wives tale

Use this recipe

1 quart 3% Hydrogen Peroxide

1/4 cup Baking Soda

1 teaspoon liquid soap (Dawn)

Mix in a bucket (it will fizz).

Soak your dog's fur, but be careful not to get any in his eyes.

Use a sponge to clean off his head and around his eyes.

Toss out anything left over..DO NOT STORE.
