What is the best way to remove ticks from a pet with a lot of hair2007-11-25 2:52:06

Have a 6 month old puppy, and she picked up a couple of ticks while we were out on our walk today, and want to remove them with out causing her any pain if possible (or as little as possible)

cut her fur back, then pluck them off, then you should go to your vet and buy a product called Frontline.its about $60 for 6 months worth of medication. Its the best stuff out there..we use it on our pets and we haven't seen fleas or ticks.

You need to make sure to get the head out of the dog when you do this. First get the dog. Light a match and then blow it out. Poke the tick with it and the heat from the once lit match should make the ticks head come out of the dogs. Then either get tweezers or a credit card and flick it off the dog and then quickly kill the bug. Hope this helps! It should not hurt the dog at all!

if you can put nail polish on the ticks head then take twezers after it make sure you get the whole thing or it may become infected.. DONT PUT A MATCH ON IT!!

Go to the pet store. They have those little tube things with the liquid inside of them that you apply on his/her back for fleas but they also remove ticks. Just make sure you keep her isolated for a while because sometimes they dont die and ticks dont care if you are a dog or a human...they will make thier home anywhere.
