He's a standard poodle weighing over 50 lbs between two and three feet tall.

Answers:

Call the various airlines which serve your city to get the fees and the vet record requirements. He is much too large to go under your seat in the cabin , and will need to be in cargo.

There are also pet transportation companies that will move your animal across the nation by van. Type in "Feathers and Fur Transport" into your search engine and you can read their details.

For JV: As a former flight attendant, please do not try to talk

someone into passing an animal off as a "service dog". First

of all, it is rude to try to get a vet to agree to something that is untrue, and secondly genuine service animals are trained so well, that they don't move a muscle on the aircraft, and are exceptionally well-behaved, much more so than anyones regular pet. A passenger once lied and said a pig was a service animal (yes, an actual hog) and the animal went completely berserk in the cabin and made the national news.

And why should all of the other passengers be uncomfortable on behalf of someone's pet? This does a great disservice to those handicapped people who are in real and genuine need.

a plane
I actually took my dog out of the country and everything was safe. The best way is airplane, take your dog to the vet and have them check your dog and they will usually give the dog a pill for airsickness. You have to pay the airline a fee,but his safety is well worth it.
I recomend North West Air Cargo. they are realy quite well develouped in pet shipping. He can be taken on as carrie on luggage if he is the correct size and weight and you are flying as well. But to ship try North West Air Cargo.
Are you going also? One way that u might be able to do but it may not be easy to deal with. Talk to your doctor get a note saying you need the dog with you.The dog will be at your side (by your feet). That might not be very comfortable for you. With a note from your doctor it would classify as a service dog/companion dog, than it won't cost anything.the passengers might have issues but they can not make you remove it.That is the federal law ADA.
