the largest dog breed by AKC standards is the Irish Wolfhound. now if you don't count people that overfeed their dogs, or breed abnormally large dogs just because they can. a fit, healthy dog of it's breed standard that should be the largest dog by height is the Irish Wolfhound.

I think that Irish Wolfhounds are the tallest, they barely beat the Great Dane in the A.K.C. standard.

Irish Wolfhounds:

males-32+ inches, females-30+ inches

Great Danes:

males-30+ inches, females-28+ inches

As far as body weight goes, it's between the St. Bernard, Newfoundland, & Mastiff.

Mastiff: 175-190 Lbs.

Newfoundland: males 130-150 Lbs; females 100-120 Lbs.

St. Bernard: 120-200 Lbs.

According to the pedigree website the Wolfhound is the biggest, but the mastiff & StBernard are the heaviest.

I've seen some very big Leonbergers though.
