What kind of dog treats do you think I should get for my chihuahua2007-11-25 2:53:25

I've tried many but he doesn't want them...I would like to train him to do things like sitting and other tricks but he doesn't like treats.hmmmm...

Just because he doesn't like treats doesn't mean you can't train him - In fact, it's better if you DON'T train with treats - A lot of dogs end up "Food motivated", where they will only respond to commands if there is a treat involved.

Use extreme praise or toys when training.

Try tiny bits of meat.. or another brand of treats. Maybe he just likes toys more in general.

Keep any eye on the pet product recall, to make sure you do not end up purchasing a treat that is recalled. Many stores have taken all recalled products off the shelf, but with more products being recalled everyday, you have to be careful.

A friend of mine, does a wonderful idea. She used the dog's food, as a treat, too. That way, there's no ''fussy'' dogs.

Well if he doesn't like treats then don't bother with them. Go with what makes your Chi most happy! If you do try out a few brands of treats be careful which ones you pick! I'm sure you are just as worried as the rest of us with the pet food scare lately! I recently bought a cookbook through a rescue group (PAp911) for food and treats! There are all kinds of great treat ideas floating around that you can make at home.
