I have several Chihuahuas and they are fairly easy to train but most are very finicky eaters. I have tried several treats from the store and have not found much they like. I will use small pieces of meat such as steak or pork that is left over from meals on occasion, but they don't always want to eat. Your dog is happy when they please you, so with that in mind praise is the best way to go. Most dogs naturally do what you want to "train" them to do (i.e. sit, lay, speak,etc.). If you can use these commands when they do these particular things, they will put the command with the activity and will be "trained". It does take time and alot of patience on your part. Good Luck!

Treats aren't necessary to train your Chi, but it can help. Meat treats are good, but mine love cheese! They also love chicken breast (cut up into very small cubes, of course), or chicken "jerky." You can buy little rounds or tenderloin strips of dried chicken in most grocery stores. My dogs are crazy for the jerky (which is actually harder than the jerky you and I would eat) and it takes them several long minutes to eat one.

As far as other treats are concerned, stay away from hard bones, the plastic or starchy BOODHA bones, and definitely stay away from rawhide! It can bind them up and cause bowel obstruction that can kill them.

EDIT: FOR GOD'S SAKE, DON'T GIVE YOUR DOG CHOCOLATE MILK, OR CHOCOLATE ANYTHING. Dogs lack the enzyme to digest milk in any case, and it can cause stomach upset and loose stool. Chocolate in any amount can KILL your little friend!

try giving it a small piece of steak or something not an entire one or try giving it a little chocolate milk...my dog loves it but be careful, chocolate milk causes dogs to get a bit hyper and they may start ripping stuff if given large doses (sounds like a drug doesn't it)
