What kind of dog would be best for me
Poodles are generally considered the smartest of all breeds and they make superb pets. Spaniel type dogs are also great, although you'd have to be careful not to get one that was too nervous. My brother and his family ADORE the two Cocker Spaniels they've had. Terriers can be hard to train. Dachshunds are great, but tend to have back problems. Corgis are nice. Beagles are VERY independent. Pomeranians and Papillions are very, very cute but can be yippy. In fact, almost any small dog can be yippy...

I heard jack russell terriers are good with kids.
i would recoment a cavalier king charles spaniel.
they are about the size of a shetland sheepdog, and simply adore children and just about everyone else. they are also quite hardy, and their coat requires not really that much care. a brushing every 2 days would keep it tangle free.
they are quite easy to train and eager to please, and very, (and i mean, very) affectionate.
We have a 4 month old and three pitbulls they are all so loving and caring. I will never own another breed of dog. If you have an infant a puppy might be a little much to handle right now. We got two of our dogs from an animal shelter and they were already house broken and everything. But pitbulls as long as they are trained right they are very good with kids/infants.
big dogs are great too- a low energy bigger dog can be a lot less trouble than a hyper small dog. don't think that you have to get a small dog.
i would adopt an adult dog that is already used to being around kids... there are lots of them at the pound needing homes. i adopted 2 senior dogs and they are the best. no housetraining, no chewing, no teaching them to behave around the kids.
