As I said, a pup from a pet store MIGHT be nice...but this is really a slim chance.

Instead, either look for a good breeder (whose prices will be LESS than any pet store) or do a search for Rescues in your area who deal with Shih Tzus or Poodles. Or check your local shelter. Rescues and shelters analyze the dog's personality and only place good-tempered dogs.

Also...in case you are one of those with the opinion that you will be 'saving' a pup from a pet store...you are actually only sentencing the parents of that pup to producing another litter. If people would stop getting pups from pet stores, puppy mills would close down.

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, buy from a pet store. Oh my God, those poor sick little dogs come from puppy mills. They are taken away from their moms as early as 3 weeks, loaded up in big old crowed trucks and taken to those dispicible pet stores and treated like crap. If you buy from a pet store, you don't know what you are gettting. Those poor babies are over priced, under loved, neglected, and very sick most of the time. Every time some innocent person buys from a pet store, it is just keeping those jerks who run the puppy mills going. Of my two choices, the Shih Tzu is my favorite, in fact, I have one. Honestly, you can buy a **** tzu or poodle from a reputable breeder cheaper than you can buy from a pet store. Thanks for listening to my ranting.

Pet stores are not the best place to buy your dog. You would be better of going to a nice breeder where you can visit and see where the puppy grew up his first few days to months. Depending on your living arrangements you will be able to see which dog is best for you. You can check out web sites on the dogs you are interested in or buy books on them. Before you buy a dog it is also good to do research on the dog and learn about the breed. You will also want to buy all the supplies you are going to need before you get your pup and bring him/her home. Food, kennel, dishes, bed, toy, and grooming supplys.

Then pick the breed that suits your lifestyle and where you live (what size of house and yard). Then buy from a responsible breeder! It will save you a world of heartache later.
