I think that a good puppy for a family is a maltese x shih tzu they are loyal and easy to keep. They are inside dogs.. My puppy is outside during the day and when i get home from work he is inside cuddling everyone. They are great with children

You should ask yourself, what kind of small DOG is good for MY family?

Are you willing to go to obedience classes, so your puppy can be socialized with other people and dogs and be a well-behaved dog that you can enjoy?

Do you have children?

What kind of exercise are you willing to give your dog? Some small dogs don't need as much exercise as other dogs, such as a Jack Russell Terrier or a West Highland Terrier are full of energy and need alot more time, attention and exercise than say a Toy poodle.

Do you live in an apartment or a house with a yard? Terriers, even though many are small, are very active and need excercise, so being cooped up in an apartment all day while everyone is gone, may not be the best choice.
