go to animal planet.com and do their pet match thing that way you can find the right dog for your family and climate area. for example some dogs are cold tolerant but not heat tolerant and you dont want to be worryd about the dog having a heat stroke do you? or if its heat tolerant and you live in a primarly cold area you would have to buy sweaters and coats for the dog when its outside. also cesar.com has a pet match thing to it just doesnt do the climate zone. but you might want to do both and get whatever comes up on both sights

a miniature sdachshund or chihuahua: they are playful and good amongst children. the italian greyhound is quite and affectionate: a good choice. terriers like the scotttish, westie, cairn, norwich, norfolk make good pets. the miniature schnauner is an excellent watcxhdog and playful with children

terriers are terrible. They chew everything and they can be aggresive. Any kind of poodle mix is good because they are fast learners and they don't shed. They are also good with kids. They dont need a lot of exercise, but they love to be around people and need lots of love. If your family is large then that is perfect as long as you're not out all the time.

A small dog that is great with kids and easy to train ..The Beagle,they are very intelagent,gentile,and just awesome with children..you could probly go to one of the animal shelters and get one pretty cheap.Make sure to take you kid/children with you to see how the dog will react to them , don't want to get a dog that isn't good with kids....Good luck
