Well he appently doesn't know what kind of damage his dog did. first I would report the attack to the proper authorities. Then I hope you got the mans name or at least know where he lives. After you report this attack see where it leads you. If nothing comes of it I would wire a certified letter to the dog owner stating the amount of the vet bills and ask for rembursement from him. If he refuses then I would hire a lawyer or at least go take to one to see what other options you have.

you might consider just calling, and telling him how much it really will cost.

might that be better than making lawyers richer at the same time?

other than that, there's small claims court.

keep in mind, your lawyer's going to want to get paid.

are you going to pay him out of your pocket?

or are you going to give him 50% of whatever he recovers?

Did the owner provide you with his contact information? If so, give him a call, and let him know the overall cost of your dog's medical care. He may not have realized, when he suggested $50, that your dog would have more serious injuries.
