What legal action can I pursue if my dog was leashed in a park when an unleashed dog attacked her

If you can take care of this, without legal action, then do so. You need to use the money towards your dog's rehabilitation, not legal fees.

If the incident is over, I doubt you will be able to find the owner and if you do, I doubt they'd admit to it!

If you have witnesses, proof, video, etc. Then you may have a case. Depends on the laws in your area, too.

(the same thing happened to me the other day!! A Cocker came over to my leashed Chihuahua and bit her eye! - luckily she was OK, but it was totally preventable and I would be FURIOUS if your situation happened to me!)

In most, if not all, areas, the owner of a dog is responsible for any damage it causes - including if YOU hit a dog with your car! - any damage that causes to you or your car would be the responsibility of the owner of the dog that YOU hit!! Crazy, huh?

I don't know how long it's been since the attack, but hopefully you have the contact info of the person, a witness, photos after the attack, vet records, etc...

Definitely make a police report right away with all of the evidence you can gather!

No one can compensate you for the pain and fear this incident has caused you or your dog, but I sure hope that you can AT LEAST get this paid for! If they offered to pay $50, you should definitely tell him/her how much it costed and see if they'll pay for it all!

It may help to remind the owner of the dog that attacked yours that (depending on your area), the dog can be deemed as a danger/threat and put down (or other consequences) because of the incident if you report it.
