what makes someone a backyard breeder, Is it someone who breeds dogs but doen't show them?

Can breeding dogs be considered a hobby if you just have papered dogs?

Can't a person breed two dogs with the desire to breed for soundness and personality, without haveing two dogs with show points.

What about people who breed mix or purebreeds for assistance dogs?

I know a puppy mill is someone who breeds a large number of dogs for money only with no showing.

A puppy mill is someone that raises one breed or many breeds that don't care for the dogs and breeds and breeds and breeds female for years and years ,They keep them in small cages and they live in poor nasty living areas,

A back yard breeder is someone that just has a few pets that have a few litters of pups a year.

I raise goldendoodles for assistance dogs because there a great mix for that.

And I don't show any of my dogs so does that make me a mill?

A back yard breeder is someone who breeds dogs for all the wrong reasons and with pretty much no knowledge. The only acceptable reason is to preserve or improve your chosen breed. To do that you need to breed only the very best examples of the breed. That means you need to have a very thorough knowledge of the standard, you need to be able to apply the laws of genetics, you need to know your dog's pedigree very thoroughly for at least 3 generations back.
