What makes a person a backyard breeder

a)The birthing process is messy, painful and often tragic...not something for a child to witness.

b)Not much fulfilling for the female to go through the pain of pregnancy and delivery, to nurse the pups and just as they are starting to get cute and playful...they are taken away by total strangers.

c)These friends/family often don't really mean they want a pup and back off when the pups are born, for some reason or other.

d)The only two dogs who can make the same dog as your female is HER parents...the offspring of the female might be a huge disappointment, especially if the male isn't top quality.

e)No one should breed simply to make money off of their dog...there are far too many dogs in need of a home to produce more to line your pocket.

A backyard breeder also does no health checks on their female and doesn't require any on the male. All breeds have genetic disorders that breeding stock must be ruled clear of before safely producing a litter. Thus diseases are passed down the line.

Backyard breeders don't require pups to be returned to them should the new owners not be able to keep them in the future.even 6 or 8 years down the road. So the offspring of backyard breeders often ends up in shelters or rescue.

Backyard breeders, even though they THINK their own female is a gorgeous dog, doesn't know the breed standard well enough to judge...often, they haven't ever even SEEN a breed standard! This is where showing your dog and at least getting a few points on them, if not the actual championship, comes into play.
