What mix is my dog2007-11-25 2:53:01

There is a link to some pictures of him at the bottom... We're 99% sure he's got some chow in him. Sometimes (like when he's asleep) his ears are floppy and when he's listening they stick up. His tail curls over his back and he's got black spots on his tongue. He's about 35 lbs (3 years old) and his back is about 1 1/2 feet off the ground. He's smart, but moody and stubborn. What do you think?

Could be Akita mix. Or smooth Chow. But I'd go with Akita mix. Black spots don't mean much...many breeds can have black spots on the tongue...even purebreds.

Chows mixes are usually stockier with more hair. And generic mixes can also look like this.

looks like a lab mix to me, maybe a slight amount of chow (mainly because of the spotted tounge and curly tail)

Chows are usually stockier, sturdier, but it's possible depending on *what* he's mixed with. Curly tail and those ears could also indicate Akita.

My dad always used to say never get a dog unless he's got black in his mouth, like a black mouth=a good dog?!? (but I think that's an old wives tail)

I dont see chow at all.. black pigment on the tongue can be present in ANY dog breed. What I see in the dog is Basenji, and maybe Labrador.. but the body shape, head shape stance and especially the curled tail all suggest Basenji... they are very stubborn and intelligent dogs with a mind of their own and rather cat-like in personality and grooming. I would bet good money that your dog has a large percentage of Basenji. Tell me this, does he have a strange and unusual bark and doesnt bark often? if so well thats an even better clue as Basenjis are like that...
